Add a description to a photo

A short description turns a photo into a record of what happened — what you saw, which panel, what the reading means. Descriptions travel with the photo and can be searched later.

Add a description on mobile

1. Capture or import a photo.
2. On the action bar, tap Description.

3. Type your note, or tap the mic to dictate.

4. Save the photo.

You can also edit a description later: open the photo in the app, tap the description (keyboard) icon, edit, and tap Save.

Dictate a description by voice

On the mobile app you can speak your description instead of typing — handy when your hands are full on site.

1. In the description field, tap the mic icon (the hint reads Optional description — type or tap the mic to dictate).
2. Allow microphone access the first time.
3. When it shows Listening…, speak your note. It's transcribed in your app language and added to the field, so you can keep dictating to append more.
4. Tap the mic again to stop; you'll see Description added.

Dictation runs on your device — there's no cloud transcription — and it's available wherever you edit a media description, including the capture review and annotation screens. The web dashboard is type-only.

Edit a description on the web

1. Open the photo from the Media library or an item's Media tab.
2. In the preview, open Details.
3. Use Edit description, then Save description. You can edit the Location here too.

Notes

• Descriptions are optional, and there is no separate caption field.
• Photo location can be edited on the web but not changed on mobile after saving.
